A few months ago, a customer came into the store with a guitar in a simple cardboard box stamped “Epiphone”. Nothing unusual, you might say, when you work at Domaine Musical. But the moment he opened the box... our luthier Hugo's eyes widened.
Inside lay a veritable collector's item: an Epiphone SG signed by the members of AC/DC: Malcolm Young, Angus Young, Brian Johnson, Phil Rudd, and Cliff Williams. A rare, if not absolutely unique item (if our research is to be believed).
The impassioned customer then told us the story of his acquisition of this guitar, before entrusting us with a delicate mission: to repair the headstock, which had cracked following a fall, and above all, to preserve at all costs the signatures, which were already fading.
Mission accepted, and with enthusiasm, by Hugo.
First, the repair of the head: gluing, touching up the tint, applying a fine varnish, then polishing.
Then came the most delicate part: the autographs. Hugo completely dismantled the guitar; then, once it was bare, applied a protective varnish to the top to freeze the signatures in time. Finally, as with all our guitars, Hugo carried out a complete adjustment and cleaning, according to the rules of the art.
An unexpected and exciting adventure, just the way we like it here.
