When you play a lot on your favorite guitar, the frets wear down, buzzing happens everywhere, and Bach, listening to the intonation, starts to miss his Well-Tempered Clavier… It’s time to think “refretting”.
That’s exactly what a customer did with his Lowden folk: a beautiful instrument that had clearly seen better days. On the menu: a full refretting and repair of a hole in the side.
Hugo started by removing the old frets and leveling the fingerboard. Then he cleaned the fret slots, cut new frets, and shaped the tangs to preserve the original profile. Finally, he installed them into the fingerboard.
As for the side, he cut and inlaid a piece of walnut to fill the hole left by a former strap button, before blending it all with a touch-up of stain and varnish.
And to finish: reassembly, full setup, new strings.
A guitar ready to make music for many years to come.
